My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite | Published November 20th 2018 by Doubleday Books | 226 Pages | Goodreads
✅ PUBLISHER’S DESCRIPTION
“When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This’ll be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s dispatched in “self-defense” and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first. Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating a doctor at the hospital where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s long been in love with him, and isn’t prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other… ”
✅ REVIEW
“Ayoola summoms me with these words–Korede, I killed him.
I had hope I would never hear these words. again.
Dark, captivating, and complex. This was an excellent novel.
Korede is a nurse with many virtues, professional, responsible, and an excellent cook. It appears that it doesn’t matter how accomplished she is because once people (specially men) meet her sister Ayoola, Korede becomes invisible. Ayoola seems to have an appetite for murder and whenever she makes a mess, she calls Korede to come clean it up.
When I first read the description, I thought the novel would be gory and graphic, but it is not about that at all, well, maybe a little bit about the serial murders. However, the novel focuses on the complex relationship between sisters, loyalty, family, the privileges that come with beauty, and much more.
The novel takes place in Lagos, Nigeria and is narrated from the point of view of Korede. I loved it and highly recommend it to readers of contemporary fiction.

Glad to see you enjoyed it. I’ve got it on my pile somewhere, but honestly, I kind of hate the cover, which is probably why I’ve been avoiding it.
