I was fortunate to be invited to a movie screening of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society movie. The film was adapted from the book by the same name which I read years ago and loved. The movie will soon be available on Netflix (in the U.S.).
The screening took place at the Coral Gables Art Cinema, an independent movie theater located in the heart of the Gables.
The movie was wonderful, with great acting, beautiful scenery of the islands, and masterful storytelling by the filmmakers. It was a delight to watch.
After the movie ended there was a Q&A with the author which gave us a lot of insight on how the book came to be.
Then we headed across the street to the much loved Books & Books, and independent bookstore that holds great events such as this one.
The reception was excellent, there was a full house and delicious food and drinks. There was also an actual potato-peel pie and postcards for the guests. Letters are an important part of the book since it is narrated in epistolary form.
I had a wonderful time. I’m grateful to Goodreads for the invitation and to Books & Books for the wonderful event.
Carol what a fabulous opportunity! Love this book I’m so out of it I didn’t even know was being made into a movie, or maybe I did?💕
