My father has a claim to the throne, and he is waiting in the shadows for all of my mother’s words to come to pass. He wants desperately to be king, and I just want to be free. But freedom will require escape, and I’m a prisoner of my mother’s curse and my father’s greed. I can’t speak or make a sound, and I can’t wield a sword or beguile a king.
In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left, and who could ever love . . . a bird?❞ (end of description)
MY RATING: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5)
I did not enjoy the writing style or characters in this book. Why did I read it all the way to the end? I don’t know.
I like fantasy, romantic, and YA novels but this one was a miss for me. In this type of genre, I generally like the characters to have a lively personality but the ones in the book fell flat to me. I would’ve liked the romance aspect to have been constructed differently, maybe a bit more passionate a bit more tension and more bits of humor but the plot felt a bit somber to me. I can’t stand rhymey rhymes and this one had them here and there.
Overall, this was not the book for me. I noticed a lot of people enjoyed this one and wished it would’ve been like that for me, but no.
